(new)? Posting Rules

Anyone and everyone is welcome to subscribe and post to the list. Although the main theme of this list is Perl programming other topics of conversation are welcome.

From my experiences posting to several different lists across the net I've found the need to have posting rules. These rules are here to help everyone on the list get the most out of the list.

1. No insults - I've always been surprised as to how supposedly clever people can quickly devolve into using language more akin to a school yard thug than an intellectual. You're an adult, act like one.

2. No flaming - Debates are good, people aren't going to agree and it's good that they both put their points across. But know when to stop. Be mindful of rule 1. For example:-
"I think your are wrong because..." - is ok.
"I'm afraid I don't agree with you, in my experience..." - is ok.
"What? Are you F***ing stupid or something. That'll never work..." - is not ok, furthermore it's somewhat pathetic.

3. Be welcoming to new comers - We were all new once. It seems that some people loose sight of this. A helpful and friendly community is strong.

I've been on several lists where I'll get a lot of private emails of support when one of the resident uber geeks has disagreed with one of my posts. Things shouldn't be like that, and they won't be like that here. People shouldn't be afraid to post their opinion because some uber geek(s) are likely to start insulting them. I want everyone here to feel happy and safe to post what they think. This is what these rules are for. This is what I hope they will achieve.
